Every antenna is a compromise of function, efficiency, size and cost. EFHWs are not to be confused with a transformer feeding a wire at its "end. They work but I definitely felt like I was compromising on efficiency. First and foremost, true EFHW antennas use a half-wave length of wire to make for a more efficient radiator. Once I joined the group I felt my eyes opened to new possibilities.

This might be a pretty big advantage with respect to durability. One of the first places I heard about it was here. It took me several weeks to get around to building this. Work, travel, and just life got in the way. But once I finally built it, it was a simple kit to build. Since it was one of the prototype kits, it was missing the capacitor.
It took me maybe 30 minutes, total, to put it together. All of the parts are very high-quality. I was especially impressed with the Hammond case and knurled brass nuts.
